2026 E Scow Nationals

The E-Scow runs deep in Harken history, acting as the test platform for Peter Harken’s first ever block designs in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Never seen one? Close your eyes, and picture a 28-foot planing surfboard. It’s athletic and highly competitive with many members of the fleet being a part of the class for more than 50 years. This year Lake Geneva, known as the MECA for scow sailing, hosted this year’s annual E-Scow National Championship. 77 boats from 10 states and 26 clubs competed, stretching from the coasts of New Jersey and South Carolina to the Rockies of Colorado — a true national field. The Midwest dominated the entry list as expected, but nearly a quarter of the fleet made the trek from all around the country.

Day 1, Nicholas Clemence (Pewaukee YC) grabbed the gun in Race 1. Tim Krech (Minnetonka YC) answered with a wire-to-wire in Race 2. Burton and Krech knotted at 6 points heading into Day 2. Day 2 changed up the leaderboard as conditions were moderate and shifty. With a southerly breeze, connecting the puffs and sailing the lift proved to be the winning ticket. Sam Rogers (Minnetonka YC) broke through for his first bullet on Day 2 and Tom Burton fired back in Race 4. Clemence grabbed his second win of the week in Race 5. Day 2 conditions called for steps up on the rig, while being prepared to face the lulls when the breeze came down before blowing hard again.

Final day, Allan Terhune (Lake Geneva YC) closed it out with the gun in Race 6. With the dust settled, Thomas Burton claimed the 2026 E-Scow National Championship with a 23-point net. Eddie Cox took second, with Vincent Porter rounding out the podium. What started as a sunny day ended in a cold front bringing rain, only permitting the fleet to get one race in.
